The 2012 Master’s Program in Human Science is recruiting according to the four categories of admission systems mentioned below.

Applicants for Area I & Area II must take an examination through one of the following admission systems:

Application Qualification

(1) Admission System by Ordinary Examination
Objective The Admission System by Ordinary Examination is used to allow individuals to advance to a comprehensive and interdisciplinary curriculum at the graduate school level with the aim of granting knowledge from a broad perspective, cultivating the research abilities in one’s major field of research and fostering the skills necessary for highly specialized tasks.
Applicant Qualification
[Spring Semester Admission I & II]
Applicants must satisfy one of the following requirements:
  • to have graduated from a university/college or be expected to graduate by the end of March 2012
  • to have obtained or be expected to obtain a bachelor’s degree by the end of March 2012 from the National Institution for Academic Degrees and University Evaluation
  • to have completed or be expected to complete 16 years of formal education abroad by the end of March 2012
  • to have been nominated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology
  • to have been recognized as having an ability equivalent or superior to a university graduate through the Individual Assessment for University Graduation Equivalency provided by the Graduate School of Human Science, and to be 22 years of age or older

Applicants must satisfy one of the following requirements:
  • to have graduated from a university/college or be expected to graduate by the end of September 2012

1. Special Admission for Members of Society
Objective Special Admission for Members of Society is used to allow individuals to advance to a comprehensive and interdisciplinary curriculum at the graduate school level where the experiences of adults are utilized and where lively knowledge and earnest research attitudes positively influence individuals studying human science while responding to society’s demand for highly educated professionals.
Applicant Qualification Applicants must satisfy all the following requirements:
  • to satisfy the qualifications for the Ordinary Examination
  • to have more than three years of work experience at the time of application
  • to have been recognized by the President of Tokiwa University as having a clear research plan complying with the curricula of the Graduate School of Human Science as well as a strong will to accomplish the research

2. Special Admission for Holders of Unique Qualifications [School teacher]
Objective Special Admission for Holders of Unique Qualifications [School teacher] is used to allow individuals to advance to a comprehensive and interdisciplinary curriculum at the graduate school level with the aim of expanding the research and development skills of teachers, studying specialized knowledge and acquiring high-level teaching certification.
Applicant Qualification Applicants must satisfy all the following requirements:
  • to be a current school teacher as stipulated in Article 1 of the School Education Act or to possess corresponding experience, and to have obtained a first-class teaching certificate
  • to have been recognized by the President of Tokiwa University as having a clear research plan complying with the curricula of the Graduate School of Human Science as well as a strong will to accomplish the research

3. Special Admission for Holders of Unique Qualifications [Nurse, public health nurse]
Objective Special Admission for Holders of Unique Qualifications [Nurse, public health nurse] is used to allow individuals to advance to a comprehensive and interdisciplinary curriculum at the graduate school level with the aim of expanding the research and development skills of nurses and studying broad, scientific knowledge.
Applicant Qualification Applicants must satisfy all the following requirements:
  • to have completed a course in nursing and to have obtained the qualification of a nurse
  • Applicants must satisfy one of the following requirements:
    • to satisfy the qualification for the Ordinary Examination
    • to have more than three years of work experience in a medical institution or to have corresponding work experience
    • to have completed a course for nursing instructor training
    • to have research achievements and to be 22 years of age or older
  • to have been recognized by the President of Tokiwa University as having a clear research plan complying with the curricula of the Graduate School of Human Science as well as a strong will to accomplish the research

4. Special Admission for Holders of Unique Qualifications [Registered dietitian, nutritionist]
Objective Special Admission for Holders of Unique Qualifications [Registered dietitian, nutritionist] is used to allow individuals to advance to a comprehensive and interdisciplinary curriculum at the graduate school level with the aim of expanding the research and development skills of registered dietitians and nutritionists and studying broad, scientific knowledge.
Applicant Qualification Applicants must satisfy all of the following requirements:
  • to have completed a nutritionist training course and to have obtained the qualification of a nutritionist
  • Applicants must satisfy one of the following requirements:
    • to satisfy the qualifications for the Ordinary Examination
    • to have obtained the qualification of a registered dietitian
    • to have more than four years of work experience as a nutritionist
    • to have research achievements and to be 22 years of age or older
  • to have been recognized by the President of Tokiwa University as having a clear research plan complying with the curricula of the Graduate School of Human Science as well as a strong will to accomplish the research

(3)Special Admission for Active University Students
Objective Special Admission for Active University Students is used to allow individuals to advance to the graduate school from their third year as an undergraduate with the aim of early training as researchers and high-level professionals.
Applicant Qualification Applicants must satisfy all the following requirements:
  • to be enrolled as a third-year students at a university/college
  • be expected to acquire 100 units or more by the third year of Undergraduate Studies
  • be expected to obtain an additional 30 units or more during the year the entrance examination is taken (third year)
  • be expected to receive a grade of “A” in a minimum of two-thirds of the courses where units are obtained by the completion of the third year of Undergraduate Studies

※Applicants admitted to the graduate school through this admission system are required to withdraw from their current university.

(4)Admission System for the Field of Clinical Psychology
Objective The Admission System for the Field of Clinical Psychology is used to allow individuals to advance to a comprehensive and interdisciplinary curriculum at the graduate school level with the aim of training specialists engaged in psychological duties.

  • to satisfy the qualifications for the Ordinary Examination
  • to satisfy the qualifications for the Admission System for Members of Society
  • to satisfy the qualifications for Special Admission for Active University Students
