Admission for Foreign Applicants & Returnees

Application Qualification

[Foreign Applicants]

Applicants must not possess Japanese nationality and must satisfy all of the following requirements:

  1. to have completed or be expected to complete 12 years of formal education through general curricula and to have studied at a foreign educational institution for six years or more
  2. to have obtained a score of 200 or above on the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU) (subject: Japanese) administered by the Japanese Student Services Organization, passed Level N2 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) or passed Level 2 of the former JLPT. Scores for the EJU are restricted to exams taken in 2010 (November) and 2011 (June, November).
  3. to have the necessary finances to afford the tuition and living expenses for studying at the university
  4. to be 18 years of age or older at the time of enrollment
  5. as a general rule after admission, to have obtained or renewed a “Study Abroad” status of residence through the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act
    *If there are any questions or concerns regarding the acquisition or renewal of a “Study Abroad” status of residence after admission, please be sure to contact your local immigration office before applying to the university.
[Returnees]

Applicants must possess Japanese nationality (or permanent residency in Japan) and satisfy all the following requirements:

  1. to have completed or be expected to complete 12 years of formal education through general curricula by the end of March 2012 within and outside of the country and to have been enrolled or be expected to be enrolled at an educational institution which corresponds to a foreign secondary education curriculum for two consecutive years or longer
    *Curricula acknowledged by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology as being equivalent to a high school curriculum or specified foreign education institutions are excluded.
  2. to be 18 years of age or older at the time of enrollment

Application Method

(1) Applicants for the College of Human Science (excluding the Department of Health and Nutrition), the College of Applied International Studies and the College of Community Development

A second-choice department within the same college is allowed. Please select a second choice only if there is intent to enroll in the department. However, if applying for the College of Human Science, the Department of Health and Nutrition may not be used as a second choice.

(2) Applicants for the Department of Health and Nutrition

Other departments may not be used as a second choice.

Selection Method

Every college determines successful applicants based on a comprehensive assessment of submitted documents and results from the short essay and personal interview.
