Location
Location Tokiwa University is located in Mito City (population 260,000), in Ibaraki Prefecture, which is approximately 120 kilometers northeast of Tokyo. The university is located within easy commuting distance of Tokyo and Yokohama, and is close to the World Heritage Site of Nikko.
Air TravelNarita International Airport is 70 kilometers from the university and will be the main point of entry for international participants attending the Symposium.
Local TransportationCity buses are available from early morning to late evening in Mito. Because Mito is one of the satellite cities of Tokyo, transportation between Mito and Tokyo is excellent. It takes approximately 65 minutes from Mito to downtown Tokyo by express train. There are 32 express trains from Mito to downtown Tokyo each day. There is also an express bus service from Mito to Tokyo, which offers 28 trips a day. The trip takes approximately two hours.
Narita Airport Free Pick-up ServiceThe organizers will send a limited number of busses to the Narita International Airport (NRT) on select days and times before the start of the symposium. The dates and times are represented on the chart below:
The pick-up areas will be only the following bus stops shown as below:
Again, space on these busses is limited, so please make your reservation as soon as possible, or risk not being able to board.
Self-travel guide from Narita Airport to Mito In the event that you are traveling by yourself from Narita Airport to Mito/Tokiwa University, please print out and use the guide below, which explains how to get to the conference site from Narita by highway bus. Note that the last bus of the Rose Liner service leaves at 20:45, so if you are unable to land, get through customs, etc., and board the bus by this time, it is recommended that you make plans to spend the night at Narita and travel to Mito the following morning.

* Please note that it generally takes at least an hour to get through visa check and customs at Narita Airport. For this reason, bus reservations from participants whose flights arrive less than 60 minutes before the bus departure time will not be accepted. Such participants are asked to come to Mito themselves using the highway bus as described above.
