Overview

The World Society of Victimology’s 13th International Symposium on Victimology, like the symposia before it, is a weeklong gathering of Victimology scholars, researchers, practitioners, teachers, and students from around the world to examine and discuss current and emerging issues in the field. The theme of the symposium, “Victimology and Human Security,” will be emphasized among the various parallel sessions.

Location

The symposium will be hosted by Tokiwa University in scenic Mito, Japan. The university is located within a single day’s trip to beautiful sightseeing locations such as the cities of Tokyo, Yokohama, the giant statue of Buddha at Kamakura, and the World Heritage Site of the Nikko Mountain Resort.

Languages

The official language of the symposium will be English. Simultaneous interpretation will be provided in both English and Japanese during each of the plenary sessions. Other languages may be included if pre-registration numbers justify the need.

Additional Programs

The World Society of Victimology’s annual Asian Postgraduate Course will be held in tandem with the symposium. In addition to the symposium’s scientific program, the conference host has prepared a number of social events, including an opening reception, a mid-week excursion to victim and criminal-justice-related sites, and a banquet with entertainment.
