Partnerships for Progress

The Tokiwa International Victimology Institute is forging partnerships with stakeholders in Victimology in all aspects of its mission. These include individuals, academia, non-profit organizations, governmental and multilateral organizations, and corporations faced with the mission of finding durable solutions for victims in the twenty-first century. By not working alone, the TIVI is committed to playing a significant role in promoting victims’ issues locally, nationally, regionally, and globally.

Since its foundation, the TIVI has worked with the World Society of Victimology to provide the annual Asian Postgraduate Course on Victimology and Victim Assistance as well as a number of symposia, including a symposium in 2008 on the Proposed UN Convention on Justice for Victims of Crime and Abuse of Power, and the 13th International Symposium on Victimology in 2009. Additionally, the TIVI has worked cooperatively with the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to conduct victim assistance training courses for government officials from developing countries. To date, these have been delivered to participants from over a dozen countries, including Palestine, Sri Lanka, Uganda, Vietnam, Brazil, and Colombia. Enduring links with course participants are maintained through the JICA link on the TIVI Community website. The TIVI also maintains cooperative connections with other international victimology and victim research institutes, such as INTERVICT in the Netherlands, the National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center at the Medical University of South Carolina, USA, as well as with Japanese victimology and victim advocate groups, both on the national and local level. The TIVI also maintains a cooperative relationship with the United Nations University (UNU) in Tokyo, and has worked with the UNU’s Sustainability and Peace Program to conduct joint research on victimization in a climate constrained world.
