International Exchange and Language Learning Center

This center plays a central role in Tokiwa University’s endeavors to promote internationalization on campus in the dimensions of international understanding, educational exchange and research exchange. It energizes intercultural activities, for example, through a student exchange program with California State Universities, Northridge and Fresno, as well as through a study abroad program at the University of California, Irvine. There is also a Chinese study program at the Beijing International Studies University and an English study program at Chichester College in England.

The center supports students in their independent learning of English and other languages by creating an environment where students can learn languages in readily accessible study areas dedicated to specific learning purposes. These innovative facilities are designed to be used by either individuals or groups and produce a relaxing atmosphere where students can enjoy language learning by watching, listening, touching and talking. They can also take advantage of “Talk Time” during the lunch break every week to converse in English or Chinese with faculty members. During the fall semester, “English Connections” gives students chances to speak English and interact in small groups with exchange students from our partner universities.

Other activities include the seasonal publication of a bilingual newsletter, which features students’ overseas experiences, on-campus activities by international exchange clubs and other relevant information and the hosting of an English speech contest for local high school students held every October.
